No to US Regime Change in Cuba
by ILPS Philippines Chapter Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006 at 7:27 AM

The US plan for “annexation” of Cuba includes more radio/TV broadcasting in Cuba about the “evil designs” of Fidel Castro against the “democratic ideals” of the Cuban people, setting up a Commission for Assistance in a Free Cuba “in the event of the collapse of communism,” accusing Cuba of harboring biological weapons which former US President Gerald Ford said did not at all exist, etc.

“US President George W. Bush is exploiting the recent surgery on Fidel Castro and the temporary transfer of his leadership to Raul Castro as a ‘perfect’ scenario to agitate the anti-Cuba forces, ‘to invade’ Cuba and to oust the anti-imperialist leader,” Rita Baua, Secretary-General of the International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) Philippines Chapter, said at a rally held in front of the US Embassy on Aug. 11.

Baua quoted Condoleeza Rice, head of the Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba and current US Secretary of State, who wrote in her June ’06 report ,” the urgency of working today to ensure that the Castro regime’s succession strategy does not succeed.”

“We condemn in the strongest words possible this arrogant and militarist mindset of a war monger who, like her boss, George Bush, imagines that the US government can bring down the Cuban people to their knees, “ Baua stated.

The anti-US rally was also sponsored by other groups – Bayan, Amistad, the Philippines-Bolivarian Venezuela Friendship Association which have likewise condemned this latest maneuver of the US in its global plan “to create a hegemony that would further promote its plunder and war agenda,” Baua said.

US President George Bush commenting on Rice’s report, said that, “ this…demonstrates that we are actively working for change in Cuba, not simply waiting for change."

Furthermore, the Department of State has emphasized that the plan includes measures that will remain secret "for reasons of national security" and to assure its "effective implementation".

“The ILPS Philippines Chapter vehemently opposes this latest ploy of the US to bring its war of terror against the peace-loving peoples not only of Cuba, but also of the Carribean region, “ Baua said.

“The US is clearly the number one enemy and the number one terrorist in the world today for supporting Israeli Zionism for its relentless bombardment of Lebanon whose numbers of civilians killed have reached almost 1,000; for its occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan; for its military intervention in the Philippines, for saber rattling against the assertion of sovereignty by other countries such as Iran and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea“ added the ILPS Philippines Chapter leader.

“ As anti-imperialist and anti-US war groups, we in the ILPS Philippines Chapter stand staunchly in solidarity with the people of Cuba who have resisted many attempts of past US administrations to strangle their fragile economy, to deny them of essential medical supplies, and to demonize Fidel Castro and other leaders of Cuba, “ Baua continued.

“ We are confident that the Cuban people will overcome these latest tactics of the Bush regime, “ Baua ended.
