GABRIELA may view the recent announcement of Foreign Affairs Secretary Delia Albert on the gradual pullout of Filipino troops in Iraq as a positive development, but says it cannot at this moment determine whether this move may have been too late to save Angelo dela Cruz.
MALACANANG’S IMPOSITION OF NEWS BLACKOUT IS TORTURE
“While we view the recent announcement of Foreign Affairs Secretary Delia Albert on the gradual pullout of Filipino troops in Iraq as a positive development, we cannot at this moment determine whether this move may have been too late to save Angelo dela Cruz.”
GABRIELA Women’s Partylist Representative Liza Largoza Maza issued this statement today as she joined militant groups demanding an end to the news blackout imposed by Malacanang.
“The Arroyo government should not hold the truth hostage in this very critical situation,” Maza said, stressing the plight of Angelo dela Cruz is of national importance to a nation with 8M Overseas Filipino Workers.
Maza adds that fears on the uncertain situation of Angelo dela Cruz were compounded following the violent dispersal of militant groups holding vigil for Angelo dela Cruz. “If Malacanang is certain that it can and will do everything it can to save dela Cruz, why this display of paranoia over street protests?”
“President Arroyo’s continued silence on the situation of abducted Filipino worker Angelo dela Cruz is enough torture, not only for the dela Cruz family but for an entire nation awaiting the resolution to this crisis. We call for an end to the news blackout now.” Maza said. #
