GMA RECEIVES U.S. BLESSINGS, FILIPINOS DECRY GMA SUPPORT TO U.S. OCCUPATION OF IRAQ
by PCPR Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2004 at 7:00 PM

The U.S., having the bloodiest record of aggression, is the world’s number one terrorist and has absolutely no moral and legal authority to act as world police. And puppet presidents like GMA can never be worthy of the people’s support,” PCPR concluded.

On June 30, the U.S. will send a big delegation for the inauguration of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. “As any puppet president of the Philippines, GMA receives U.S. blessings anew. U.S. Pres. George W. Bush congratulated GMA’s victory and expressed gratitude for GMA’s continuing support to the U.S. war which was launched on very questionable grounds: the supposed existence of weapons of mass destruction which have yet to be found. We condemn in strongest terms GMA’s continuing support to the U.S. occupation of Iraq and her commitment to welcome more U.S. military troops in the Philippines. Bush and GMA are the real terrorists and ruthless war-mongers who do not deserve a single day in public office,” Rev. Fr. Allan Jose Arcebuche, OFM, National Co-Chairperson of the Promotion of Church People’s Response said in a statement.

Bush has been hounded by protests against the unjust U.S. war in the U.S. itself and in countries around the globe. He was met with massive demonstrations during his October 18 visit in Manila while GMA spent millions for grand preparations for his 8-hour visit. “War-freak presidents like Bush and GMA do not have the people’s mandate and can only steal their electoral victory at the expense of democracy, peace and sovereignty. From June 30 onwards, we shall continue to launch protests against GMA’s puppetry to U.S. and elite interests, corruption and illegitimacy as we continue to assert that Filipinos, Iraqis and all people of the world deserve genuine democracy, peace and sovereignty,” PCPR stressed.

On June 28, the U.S. supposedly transferred sovereignty to Iraq.

“It was just another hoax of U.S. imperialists. We continue to demand the immediate and total pull-out of U.S. invaders in Iraq as we demand GMA to withdraw her support to the U.S. war, including the withdrawal of Filipino troops, amid countless deaths of civilians in Iraq, Filipinos among them.” PCPR likened the June 28 event in Iraq to the supposed 1946 grant of independence to the Philippines by the US. “Filipinos and the Iraqi people now share a common tragedy – that of having bogus sovereignty under U.S. neo- colonial rule, in the name of U.S. ‘war on terror’ that has meant brutal economic and military aggression against Iraqis, Filipinos and other poor nations,” PCPR lamented.

“The U.S., having the bloodiest record of aggression, is the world’s number one terrorist and has absolutely no moral and legal authority to act as world police. And puppet presidents like GMA can never be worthy of the people’s support,” PCPR concluded. Together with inter-faith and multi- sectoral groups, PCPR will hold an ECUMENICAL PRAYER AND CANDLE LIGHTING FOR GENUINE PEACE AND SOVEREIGNTY near the U.S. Embassy in Manila at around 6:00 pm today. The activity is part of global demonstrations demanding immediate and total pull-out of US invaders in Iraq in the wake of June 28 “handover” of sovereignty.
