PCPR Demands GMA to Withdraw Immoral Support to US War
by PCPR Thursday, May. 13, 2004 at 1:55 PM

The Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR) criticized Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the government’s continuing support to the brutal US occupation of Iraq.

Amid deaths of five Filipino workers and shocking evidences of human rights abuses against the Iraqi people, the Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR) criticized Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the government’s continuing support to the brutal US occupation of Iraq.

“It is really tragic and outrageous that despite the increasing body counts and brutal torture of Iraqi prisoners, the immoral support of Pres. Arroyo to the US aggression continues,” Rev. Fr. Allan Jose Arcebuche, OFM, PCPR National Co-Chairperson stated.

“The lives of thousands of Filipinos in Iraq are seriously endangered because of the Philippine government’s continuing involvement in the US war. If Mrs. Arroyo emerges as the winner in the elections, another six years of a pro-US war policy doesn’t bode well for the future of Filipinos here and abroad,” Fr. Arcebuche added.

“Pres. Arroyo should immediately withdraw her immoral support to the US invasion of Iraq. The US war is condemned throughout the world and by peace- loving and decent-minded Filipinos. GMA’s refusal to relent to public opinion and to keep on toeing the line of the US totally contradicts her campaign promises of bringing peace and security for Filipino,” PCPR concluded.
