On the occasion of International Labor Day and nationwide Miting de Avance of Anakpawis party list today, the peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) called on the Filipino toiling masses to further strengthen the worker-peasant alliance and ensure the victory of Anakpawis party list come May 10.
KMP secretary general Danilo Ramos vowed that, “the Filipino peasantry is about to deliver 1 million votes for Anakpawis party list.”
He added that the victory of Anakpawis would further advance the peoples’ struggle for genuine social and political change. “Progressive politics and the voice of the masses will soon thunder in the halls of Congress.”
“As the backbone of Anakpawis party-list, the worker-peasant alliance and the Filipino people must frustrate all attempts by the government’s military and police to block Anakpawis’ impending victory,” the peasant leader said.
Almost 50 members of the progressive party-lists like Anakpawis, Bayan Muna, Gabriela, Anak ng Bayan, Migrante and Suara Bangsa Moro, have been brutally slain and thousands subjected to various forms of human rights violations ranging from verbal threats to actual psychological and physical harassment.
The KMP also demanded President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to immediately order the military to stop its escalating attacks against officials of Anakpawis.
“Ms Macapagal, as the commander-in-chief of the military is responsible in the recent killings of peasant leaders and party officials of Anakpawis,” KMP’s Ramos stressed. #
