Finally, Destileria Limtuaco, manufacturer of Napoleon Brandy Quince Anos pulled out its offensive "Nakatikim ka na ba ng kinse anyos?" billboard.
Liza Largoza-Maza, 1st nominee of the GABRIELA Womens Party declared this development as a victory for women, and men who have voiced out their opposition to the advertisement. "They were forced to take this 'graceful' retreat because of the extent of the negative reaction triggered by the ad," she said.
Maza, however, clarified that even with the ad pull-out, Destileria Limtuaco cannot escape from accountability brought about by the previous ad. "They still have to face the cases filed against them and face whatever decision of the proper courts."
The women's partylist group thanked all groups and individuals who have responded to its campaign that called for the pull out of the ad and the boycott of the Destileria Limtuaco products. Particularly mentioned by the group were the Advertising Board of the Philippines (Adboard) who ordered the pull-out of the ads, as well as the stance taken by the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA), Outdoor AdvertisersAssociation of the Philippines (OAAP) and the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4A) who issued ads to support the call for the pull-out.
Maza stressed that the efforts of women's organizations, church groups like the Ecumenical Women's Forum, Association of Major Religious Superiors-Women and Gender Commission, women's desk of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, and various other groups and individuals, including senatorial candidates Pia Cayetano and Boots Anson Roa, have greatly contributed to the success of the campaign. "Through our united efforts we have gained a tactical victory. Hopefully, we can continue such efforts to gain more victories in our campaigns for women's issues." #
