Expressing solidarity with the people and the peoples of other countries who struggle for freedom, self-determination, and self-governance among the nations of the world, the ILPS has participated in the Global Day of Action in London together with various groups.
On the same day, the more than 250 ILPS member organizations throughout the world responded to the call to action by launching protest actions on the first anniversary of the US-UK invasion of Iraq.
Assembly for the march started as early as 9:00am at the Speakers' corner in Hyde Park as early as 9:00 am.
Earlier in the morning, some groups had already pitched their pickets and tents across the Parliament building.
A pair of climbers managed to scale Big Ben and unfurl a banner stating "Time for Truth" causing embarrasment to security forces guarding the building.
Strong anti-Blair and anti-Bush posters featuring "BLIAR" and "No more war, No more lies" reflect the condemnation of the deception carried by the US and the UK to push through with their invasion.
The ILPS in its statement distributed in the rally strongly condemned the US-UK invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Highlighting the murder of tens of thousands of Iraqi people and the massive destruction of infrastructure of Iraq, the ILPS demanded that the sovereign right of the Iraqi people to national self-determination be respected and that "the US imperialists and all their occupying agents withdraw unconditionally from Iraq".
The
statement further emphasized that "US imperialism is the No. 1 enemy of the people of the world".
Posters condemning US military intervention and threats against the people of Korea, Philippines, Nepal, India, Turkey, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Zimbabwe, Congo, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela were also seen carried by the ILPS participants.
Slogans such as "No justice, no peace, US out of the Middle East", "US Imperialists, Number one terrorists", and calls for Palestine liberation can be heard while the rallyists snaked through the streets.
The march went from Hyde park to Trafalgar Square where a large video screen flashed images of the war and slogans and pictures condemning George Bush and Tony Blair.
Several speakers addressed the estimated 100,000 people assembled in the square.
