The International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) hereby announces its participation in the Global Day of Action and calls on all its more than 250 member-organizations throughout the world and all other organizations and people within their reach to initiate or join protest mass actions on March 20, 2004, the first anniversary of the US-UK invasion of Iraq.

We condemn and protest the US-UK invasion and occupation of Iraq. These have caused the murder of tens of thousands of Iraqi people and the massive destruction of homes, the means of livelihood, factories, water systems, power plants, communications, office buildings and other infrastructure of Iraq.

The US and British imperialists have carried out the atrocities in order to grab the oil resources, privatize public assets and establish US military bases in Iraq. Control of Iraq is aimed at further imposing US hegemony over the entire Middle East, tightening US control over OPEC and the global oil business, preserving the US dollar as the currency of oil transactions and perpetuating the Zionist occupation of Palestine.

We demand that the sovereign right of the Iraqi people to national self-determination be respected and that the US imperialists and all their occupying agents withdraw unconditionally from Iraq. We are in solidarity with the Iraqi people and support them in their heroic struggle for national liberation and democracy against US imperialism and their puppets. We agree with the American people who demand that US troops must go home and that US tax money must be used for the people's benefit and not for war.

In anticipation of Land Day on March 30, 2004, we condemn and protest the US-Israeli collaboration and express support for the Palestinian people's right to national self-determination, including their right to return to their homes and land. On the Global Day of Action, we also condemn and protest US military intervention and threats against the people of Korea, Philippines, Nepal, India, Turkey, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Zimbabwe, Congo, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela.

US imperialism is the No. 1 enemy of the people of the world. It has used the September 11 attacks in order to carry out colossal acts of terrorism, such as wars of aggression and state terrorism within the US and abroad. Thus, it is grabbing more and more economic territory for plunder.

The broad masses of the people must rise up against US imperialism everywhere it engages directly in aggression, intervention and plunder and everywhere it uses puppets to carry out oppression and exploitation.

We hope that in the course of participating in the Global Day of Action we can gather proposals for the heightening of international coordination against imperialism, war and plunder and that we can also attract more organizations to join the International Campaign against Overseas US Military Bases. ###
